Sound Baths For Rest, Relaxation and Renewal

A quiet space to rest, listen, and simply be.

Sound baths offer an opportunity to step away from the busyness of everyday life and spend some time simply resting and listening. Through the sounds and vibrations of singing bowls, chimes, gentle percussion, and other instruments, I create an environment where there is nothing you need to achieve, perform, or figure out. You can get comfortable, settle in, and allow yourself to experience the sounds as they unfold.

What is a Sound Bath?

A sound bath is an immersive listening experience in which you rest comfortably while a variety of instruments create layers of sound around you. Despite the name, there is no water involved—you are simply “bathed” in sound. During a sound bath, you might hear the sustained tones of crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, the delicate sounds of chimes, or the rhythms and textures of instruments such as a rain stick or drum.

Unlike a concert or musical performance, a sound bath isn’t really about listening to melodies or following what comes next. The invitation is simply to settle in and notice the sounds, vibrations, and moments of quiet as they arise. There is no particular way you are supposed to feel or respond, and no previous experience with yoga or meditation is needed.

What to Expect

Each sound bath begins with a few minutes to arrive and get comfortable, followed by gentle seated movement and a short guided relaxation to help you settle in. From there, you’ll be invited to rest while I create a changing soundscape using crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, chimes, a rain stick, drum, and other instruments. The sounds may be soft and subtle at times and fuller or more resonant at others, with moments of quiet woven throughout.

You can lie on a yoga mat (or other padding) with blankets and pillows for support, or sit in a chair if that is more comfortable for you. There is nothing you need to do during the sound bath other than listen and experience it in whatever way feels natural to you. Near the end, the instruments gradually become quiet, leaving several minutes of silence before I gently guide you back and bring the experience to a close.

Why Sound?

So much of our daily lives asks us to pay attention, make decisions, solve problems, and move on to the next thing. Even practices intended to help us slow down can sometimes become something else to work at or try to do well. Sound offers a different kind of experience. It gives the mind something to notice without requiring it to analyze, accomplish, or arrive anywhere in particular.

That is what draws me to sound bath work. It reflects much of what I value in my approach to yoga: creating opportunities to slow down, become more aware of what we are experiencing, and make room for rest without turning rest itself into another goal. The changing tones, vibrations, and periods of quiet provide a gentle focus for attention while allowing each person to experience the sound in their own way.

I don’t think there is a particular response you are supposed to have during a sound bath. You may feel deeply relaxed, notice your mind wandering, become absorbed in a particular sound, or simply enjoy having an hour in which very little is being asked of you. The experience can be different each time—and that, to me, is part of its value.

Private Sound Baths

Looking for a unique experience for your group, gathering, or special event? I offer private sound baths for groups throughout the south metro Denver area, bringing the same quiet, welcoming experience of my community sound baths to a setting created just for you and your guests.

Private sound baths can be a wonderful addition to gatherings with friends, birthdays and other celebrations, retreats, workplace wellness events, community and club gatherings, or simply an opportunity to bring a group together for an hour of rest and quiet. No previous experience with sound baths, yoga, or meditation is needed.

I bring the instruments and guide the experience from beginning to end, including gentle seated movement, guided relaxation, the sound bath itself, and time for quiet before we close. The format can be adjusted somewhat to suit your group, the occasion, and the space available.

Private sound baths are offered as group experiences rather than individual sound healing or one-on-one sessions. If you’re interested in arranging a sound bath for your group or event, please contact me to tell me a little about what you have in mind.

Who Are Sound Baths For?

Sound baths can be enjoyed by many different people, and you don’t need any previous experience with yoga, meditation, or other mind-body practices to participate. They may especially appeal to anyone looking for an opportunity to slow down, step away from everyday demands, and spend some uninterrupted time resting and listening. They can also be a comfortable option for people who find more traditional forms of meditation difficult or simply prefer having sound as a focus for their attention.

There is no particular level of fitness, flexibility, or physical ability required. You may experience the sound bath lying comfortably on a yoga mat with blankets and pillows for support, or seated in a chair if getting down to the floor is uncomfortable or impractical.

Sound baths may not be appropriate for everyone. Because some instruments can produce strong sounds and vibrations, please check with your healthcare provider before participating if you have a seizure disorder or epilepsy, are pregnant, have recently had major surgery, or have another condition that makes you uncertain whether a sound bath is appropriate for you. Sound baths may also not be a good fit for people with significant sound sensitivity or for whom sustained or unexpected sounds can be uncomfortable.

About Me

I’m Laurie Kelly, a yoga teacher and sound bath facilitator based in the south metro Denver area. My work has long centered on creating opportunities for people to slow down, pay attention to what they are experiencing, and make space for rest. Sound baths have become a natural extension of that work, offering another way to step away from the demands and distractions of everyday life and spend some time simply listening and being.

My background includes more than 20 years in the fitness and wellness field, along with extensive training in yoga, including restorative, yin, and trauma-informed practices. I bring that experience to the way I facilitate sound baths: with an emphasis on creating an environment that feels welcoming, accessible, and free from expectations about what you should experience or how you should feel.

Whether you’d like to join me for an upcoming community sound bath or are interested in creating a private sound bath for your own group or event, I’d love to have you join me.
